Breaking News: the Sales are on in the Tourist Industry!!!

Hi all!

I just watched an extended piece on the news about hotel, restaurant and bar owners reducing their prices in many places of Greece, starting last week. Reservations are already going slightly up and they are hoping for further increase as soon as people hear about it.

So, as I said many times, do shop around and you'll be rewarded!!!

Hurry up,

Thalia

Thanks for confirming that. I thought I saw something to that effect in the Rhodes online newspaper today(in greek, I might add). My ability to read greek is almost non-existent, but I try to get the gist of things by using my dictionary. Now... all we need is for the airlines to follow. And the exchange rate....

The airlines were first! Cheap fares are on offer constantly but you have to check every day! About a couple of months ago BA cut the fares between Europe and the US in half but it lasted only for a weekend!!!

The exchange rate is a whole different story. USD and quid will go up eventually. How soon? Who knows?

USD/euro fluctuating the last few weeks, but is really about the same now as it was a year ago give or take a few cents. $1.00=€1.38 last I looked.

Starting to seriously look at flights now that the new year is here.

OPPS.... supposed to be €1.00= $1.38. Wishful thinking that it was the other way around!

It seems to me that the dollar was almost 1.60 euro when we went last June.

Rollercoaster ride best describes it lately! It's jumped from around 1.25 a few weeks ago to as high as 1.60!! I've noticed some hotel sites offering 'locked in' rates in USD for bookings.. but of course, entail all the conditions, etc.. At least the flight fares are USD and hopefully coming down a bit! ENjoy~!

Yep, price war on the with the travel agents in UK.

Firstly, who can advertise the most on TV? Secondly Who can convince the customer they care the most? Thirdly, Who can give the most discount without actually giving it away free!

They're all 'mystery shopping' each other to check one's not giving better discounts or service than the other. Lol

It will be interesting to see how things pan out in the next few weeks.
