considering a stop in Greece

We are considering a trip to Europe which would include a stop in Greece. (end of September) We heard that it is not advisable to visit Greece. Can anyone share do's and don'ts at this time.

We are also wondering if a cruise is the best way to see Greece or should we have no fear and just travel on our own?

Thanks!

Hey and welcome Laur3:-) I say..have no fear and go for it;-) FWIW, cruises are more photo opps..leaving you a few hours on the actual isles visited.. limited time and very popular with Americans/those coming the distance for a ' taste' hopefully with plans to return to an isle of choice and base a while for further exploration;-) If you provide a bit more info..what you're looking for/looking to experienece..travel style (movers or 'basers'), etc..am sure you'll get some sugggestions to start planning out an itinerary..Sept is a wonderful time..my personal fave;-) Enjoy!

I'm not sure who is "advising" not to go to Greece. The country is as safe and welcoming as ever to visit, prices are competitive, and September is a beautiful time to go.

Excuse me, but who/from where you got this ridiculous advice ?

Greece is a safe country, always has been. Of course, in any big city, around the world, one has to have common sense and open eyes.

Agree with Litsa, September is the best month to travel, not too hot and not so crowded on the islands.

Check on the right hand column TOP things to do in Greece for further guide.

Book your flights, arrive and make a plan, travel independently, and you will absolutely enjoy this wonderful country !

Hi there

What to see and where to stop off really depends upon how long your stop will be for and what sort of things interest you. Greece is totally safe, don't take any notice of the rubbish the paper print.

A cruise is exactly that - a lot of the time is spent at sea and at best, you might get a few hours ashore in any one place, meaning that it is indeed a "snapshot" and gives you no opportunity to get a feel for the place. Travelling under your own steam in Greece is easy and inexpensive and the ideal way to really "see" the country, regardless of where you choose to go.
