There's more to Mykonos than clubs and nightlife (which you wouldn't even notice unless you wandered around certain parts of Mykonos Town past midnight). In any event, May is the best month to visit Mykonos to avoid the club and nightlife scenes, which really don't get going until June.
I think you've picked the most efficient way to visit Greece. There are a number of paired islands with airports, among them:
The best choice depends on your interests - beaches, antiquities, traditional villages, hiking, etc.
IMO, Naxos would be the best all-round island as it has all of those, as well as one of my favorite activities - the evening concert at the castle.
Hey and welcome Meggyphilly:-) You won't have any problem with 'too much nightlife' on isles in May;-) It's the beginning of the season for the isles and they don't usually rev up till later on in June! Having said that, you've got a pandora's box of choices.. usually best to keep the run in same isle group so would read up on Cyclades, Ionian, Dodecanesse, Sporades isle groups and see which you feel would best fit the bill for you.. depending on your interests/prefs.. what you're looking to experience;-) Best.. and enJOY!
If you can get a flight to Santorini, Naxos would be a great fit.
Even in May the flights to and from the smaller islands are early sold out, so you better book in advance if you go for Naxos , Paros, Syros, Milos.
Thank you all for the recommendations!! I will keep you posted where we end up :)
