pier in Lesbos, Greece

We are thinking about a cruise that stops in Lesbos, Greece. Any thoughts about what to do or see there? Can you walk from the pier into town? Or, is there a shuttle into town? If so, how much is it? We really do not know much about this island. Thanks!

Hi there

If you look at the photo taken off Wikipedia, you can see that the berths are right in town, and everything is within a short stroll.

We went to Lesvos on a cruise last year.

As far as I recall there is only one berth available for cruise ships and that was already taken by another vessel when we arrived. So were were tendered in and dropped near where the ship with the yellow funnel is berthed on GB's pic above. It' s only a short walk into town from there. Our ship was only about 35,000 tonnes, so could have been accommodated alongside, but i If you are on one of the larger cruise ships you may have to be tendered anyway. You could check with your cruise line

The yellow funnel ship and the one next to it are ANEK and NEL line ferries, and those berths are reserved for ferry traffic. From memory I think the ship with the red funnel in GB's pic is in the place where we would have docked.

We had been to Lesvos several years ago so when we visited we took a bus to Petra where we had stayed previously, but you need to be careful because the bus might not return in time to get the ship.

Myteline town is pleasant enough, not like the typical picturesque Cyclades towns, and it has quite a bustle about it, especially at ferry times. But it's pleasant enough to stroll around, have a coffee and try a few souvlakia, if you can find a souvlatzitiko open in the daytime!

Take a look at this recent thread for some ideas of what you can do on your stop.

tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g189479-i1459-k6…

If you also search the Lesvos forum you will see discussions around people who are spending a holiday on the island but plan to make a trip/overnight stop to Mytilini.

You will easily fill a day there - one of the best things to do is visit the kastro, both to explore the site & to see the views over the city.
