anything to see at Thermopylae

We're planning on driving from Athens airport to Kalambaka. Themopylae seems like a stop near the middle. Can we still see the pass where the Spartans fought the Persians, are there any restaurants there for a quick lunch. Would you recommend it for a stop to break up the driving?

Unfortunately not.

Spot right where the Thermopulae monument is is just a linear monument aside the highway. Coastline has moved towards the East after 25 centuries for some miles. General plateau arrangement can be felt since areas before and after are big plains, while at the monumenht you can still see the bulky mountainous block to the West; no resturants though there or anything to spend time excepa quick stop for 5 - 10 minutes.

And in a weird way it looks really appropriate to what Leonidas achieved there.

I 'd stop at Kammena Vourla. That's an area described here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamena_Vourla , more here: travelphoto.gr/en/…

It is actually close to Thermopylae; we are talking about some miles distance one from tother.

Kammena Vourla sounds like a great place to stop for lunch. I hope the traffic in town is not bad for mid September.
