Best Advice for traveling in Greece May/June

I'm planning my honeymoon for June 2014 and we are looking to fly into Athens (from Philadelphia/NYC), then to Santorini and Mykonos. Any tips for for starting to plan from there? I've looked into ferry vs charter flight for getting to each island but not sure which way to go yet. Also looked into some packages and even a recent Groupon but not sure if we should leave the planning to ourselves???

Best approach would be to take a flight to Santorini ASAP after your arrival at Athens airport (check flight times and availability on Aegean and Olympic airlines). From Santorini take a ferry to Mykonos, and from Mykonos either take a ferry or fly back to Athens (if you prefer flights, again check Aegean and Olympic). Leave your Athens visit for the end of your trip, after your island visits.

Packages are great if you don't want to spend time researching hotels, etc., but will cost considerably more than planning and booking your own trip. For travel to Athens, Santorini and Mykonos it's very easy to do all the bookings on your own.

Hey and welcome JMD104:-) For starters, take a look at USAir.. trust their merge with AA won't send prices skyrocketing.. nonetheless, they're the only carrier in your area flying direct to Athens.. theres also DL out of JFL.. you can also check www.kayak.com/ for alternate routes via plane change in Europe:-)

Having said that, consider just grabbing a quick flight over to one of the isles upon arrival in Athens.. no backtracking.. huge timesaver.. and regardless, great way to de-lag off the trans.. get your land legs back and yourselves into zone;-) Sign up now for email alerts with both www.olympicair.com/ www.aegeanair.com/ The flight takes barely 40 min to Santorini... half an hour to Mykonos.. with an early arrival in Athens via USAir, you should be able to find a flight to either isle by around noontime.. both are popular isles with numerous flights daily.. look for one around noontime.. you'll be in time for lunch at either a beachside tavern.. or by a caldera view;-)

You can ferry between the 2.. keep an eye out at www.gtg.r/ www.openseas.gr/ You can then opt to either fly back or ferry to Athens for your finale.. you'll also be ready to take on this magnificent City with all it has it offer after your relaxing isle stays;-) For property recs, you can post in each destination's dedicate forum (Athens, Santorini, Mykonos) and state you prefs, budget spread, etc.. All easily doable on your own.. it's popular itinerary.. and June is a wonderful time.. Congrats and Happy Honeymoon planning;-) Always EnJOY!
