Greek Islands

I'm planning on going to a Honeymoon in Aug from the 5th-14th. We are planing to fly into Athens from Chicago, IL. Might stay for a day before we fly to Mykonos where we will stay a few nights. After that, we plan to fly into Santorini for a few nights till we plan to fly back to Athens a night early before we fly back to Chicago. Is this a good option? Is August a good time to visit ? How is the weather in August? Any suggestions / advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Hey and welcome Disskies:-) I don't know if you realize that you are looking to go at the *peakest* of times.. everything in August.. till about the 25th or so, will be in full heave.. and with these 2 isles being about as popular as it gets, would seriously consider changing the dates, if possible;-) Yes, it will be hot.. and mobbed on the isles.. contrast to Athens which will be a ghost town for the most part since most are cooling off themselves on an isle somewhere;-) Can you depart the States late/end August.. possibly blending in with Sept?! Although it will still be crowded on these isles.. better than early/mid August where it's bumper to bumper visitors;-)

Having said that.. and in order to save time without backtracking to Athens and splitting up the stay.. look to fly direct to an isle upon arrival off the long haul in Athens! You're at the airport anyway.. the flights are short puddle-jumpers.. barely 25 min to Mykonos.. 45 min to Santorini.. so starting off with either works to best time in with your arrival;-) Ferry or fly between the 2 as you have planned.. then again, either fly or ferry back to Athens for a finale stay;-) Keeping the itinerary running consecutively is a huge timesaver;-) And you'll be pretty much be ready anyway to take on Athens at the end.. de-lagging on an isle and getting into zone is a good way to start the vaca coming the distance! Hitting the concrete straight off a long haul in a major metropolis such as Athens.. that requires allot of walking.. up/down hills, etc., may not be the way to go with rubber-legs and a buzz-head;-) Happy planning.. and EnJOY!
