police at syntagma sq?

just arrived in athens and was wondering why there are police on every corner of syntagma sq? there seems to be quite a few located around the 3 big hotels njv, kg, gb.

is this a common sight? or is there something going on?

we are staying at one of the hotels.

How many are "a few"? It's common to have police out and about, usually in groups of 8-10 with motorbikes. Is that what you're seeing?

I just saw in TV - there is a truck drivers protest and there were numerous clushes with the police. Looks unreal as we just came back 3wks ago, had wonderful time and stayed across the street fron Parliament...

There were some demonstration yesterday. namely truck drivers, train employees and fruit market merchants at syntagma. Since you did not even notice, they were pretty quiet and small.

However, there is allways some police at syntagma, in front of parliament, at the corner of GB and at the corner of Mcdonalds, just to mention some regular spots.

After a while you get used to them, enjoy your stay :)
