Athens - one night - cheap hotel in plaka area for family

We're going to be in Athens for one night on Aug. 13th before heading to Santorini. We are looking for a cheap hotel in the Plaka area. We are a family of 4 with 2 teens.

I have emailed Hotel Phaedra - haven't heard back. We checked Athens Backpackers - not available. We just need a place to sleep.

We get in around 2pm on the 13th, and leave Athens at 7pm the next day.

Please suggest hotels around 70Euros.

Read the reviews of the Adonis hotel before you decide to book there. One of the main complaints is noise (dirt and rude staff are others) and as you've specifically said you need "a place to sleep" the Adonis may not be for you.

Look at Metropolis and Attalos.

Also consider Hotel Myrto - basic, clean, friendly, cheap, great location. Check the reviews on here.

It depends a lot on whether you are looking for a family room, connecting rooms or just two rooms.

Both Pan and Achilleas offer quadraple rooms but not connecting rooms (unless something has changed recently).

Try the Tempi Hotel. Close to Monastiraki Square. Very friendly. Budget priced. We could see the Acropolis from our room at the front.

I stayed in the Hotel Omiros back in June and found it good, see my review.

Hotel Hermes next door looked ok too.

Plaka is not a very expensive area but is very charming though. You can check the following hotels in Plaka area only. They are sorted by price, starting from the cheapest ones. Perhaps you can find one that would fit you http://bit.ly/nH3CiP

We are a family with two teens and in July we stayed in the airotel Parthenon for two nights. It was great. Excellent location (makri street same as backpackers). 70 euros - hm it might be a bit more but it's still much more reasonable than some others on the trip advisor list of hotels in Athens. They might be booked up too given the popularity but I would recommend you have a look anyway. Enjoy your trip.
