1 day in Athens

Since we have 1 full day and night in Athens we have just a few must see places on our list.

We are hoping to take a 1/2 day tour that will take us to the Acropolis/Acropolis museum, Changing of the guards and some other historical sites.

After that we would like to spend the rest of the day walking in the Plaka, explore the markets, shop and eat.

Are all these places in walking distance of each other?

Just an addition. Do not forget hydration and sun screen. Nice affordable Jewelry is available in Plaka besides souvenirs.

Hello, best thing to see in Athina is markets at Athinas, very busy for meat and fish and on other side is flowers and vegetables and fruit. The market is a little walk from Plateia Monastiraki, maybe 5 minutes.

Hey and welcome wheretonext081:-) You'll find most of the popular sites in Athens are conveniently central and walkable.. lots on pedestrianized streets! The areas around Syntagma Square (changing of the Guard in front of Parliament Building), Plaka, Monasteraki all mergering along the way.. check out Gazi and Psirri areas for some great eats/nightife! For a wonderful evening view of the City below head up to Lycabettus Hill via funicular (teleferik) .. although you can walk it.. it's all uphill passing through posh Kolonaki area, you can grab a cab up from any of the central areas for a few Euros as well;-) Have fun.. and EnjoY!

Hi there

Just invest in a decent street map of central Athens such as the Rough Guide to Athens map, and you will see how close all the main sites and areas are to each other. I'm not suggesting you rush, but they are so close together that it's easy to fit quite a bit in without any problems.
