Winter in Athens

I will be staying in Athens (near the Acropolis) for a month in Mid-February to Mid-March.

Need your recommendations to any or all of the following.

Love to Eat, but limited budget: what restaurants serve great traditional home cooked meals for $10 +/-

Love to Swim: Are there public pools you could recommend?

Like to listen to Jazz: any small clubs without enourmous entry fees?

Probaly will have more questions later: but above three are the ones that ineterest me the most. Appreciate your replies, Tamas

None.Eating out is expensive in Athens, the cheapest will be around 15 euros pp for a meal with a beer or some wine (w/ the obvious exception of souvlaki which isn't a home cooked meal)

>Love to Swim: Are there public pools you could recommend?<

there are very few public pools in Athens & only 3 in the center (Ilisia pool tel.210 7797247 & the Panathinaicos FC pool 210-6464448 & Panelinios pool 210-8834408) call them to find out about requirements and times

Another idea if you have microwave oven is to take premade food from the supermarket and reheat them there..Otherwise the cheapest tavernas are around exarhia square but the area is not touristy.Or you can take metro to Panormou station where there is a variety of tavernas

Kunasun,

Check your earlier post for a link to a ski resort which is a two hour drive from Athens. Rent a car and drive there or perhaps you can arrange transportation with a mountaineering/ski club.

I do not want to rain on your dream Kunasun, but I see you plan to visit on November. I think that about snow, you have to have low expectations... This is usually a month that tends to be rainy , but not really snow-y. Ski resorts such as the one on Mt Parnassos are usually up and running sometime on late December. You may occasionaly get some light snowfalls on November, but do not hold your breath! Of course no one can predict the weather.....
