Airport-Acropolis Question

I see from the forums that the metro goes between these locations. We are thinking about a day stopover in Athens en route from Crete to Istanbul on Wed, Oct 24. We would have about 12 hours between flights. I have two questions:

Is there any place along the route to store our luggage?

Would a late morning to early evening be worthwhile to go the the Acropolis and the surrounding area?

Thanks for any help!

Hey and welcome mysanibelcondo:-) As AjanAndy mentions, you can certainly store luggage right at the airport.. Pacific Lmt is all the way at the tail end to the left as you exit formalities/luggage retrieval into the arrivals hall! Having said that, there is also luggage storage at the Monasteraki metro stop.. The metro from the airport is a straight run to Monasteraki taking about 40 min or so.. from there, you can certainly walk around Monasteraki, Plaka area leading to Akropolis;-)

If you wish to head direct to Akropolis, your best bet would be to store luggage at the airport and take the metro to Syntagma Square (it's one stop before Monasteraki).. at Syntagma, change trains for 1 quick stop over to Akropolis on the Red Line in the direction of Aghios Dimitrios! The entire area is walkable.. you'll find loads of pedestrianized streets/roads and makes for a great day.. if you have the time, would not miss the Akropolis Museum which is right there by the metro stop of the same name;-) Would definietely go for it.. and EnjoY!
