Hotels in Athens?

Seems like mixed feedback on hotels in Athens. Royal Olympic, NJV Athens Plaza, New Hotel are a few that have been mentioned to me. Looking for a nice hotel that is centrally located. Two families traveling, one family of 5 with 3 children (15, 12, 8) and one family of four with 2 children (17, 16). Can anyone comment on these 3 hotels and any others that I should look at?

All depends on your budget. My favorite, as everyone knows, is the Attalos on Athinas St., a budget accommodation that is clean, safe and centrally located with one of the best rooftop bars in Athens with great views of Athens and the Acropolis. There area lot of others to chose from that are very good, but budget and "frills" are a factor. For me why spend a lot of money on a big, fancy room when you'll be spending most of your time outside of it.

Hey and welcome Staktv:-) I haven't read the reviews on the properties you mention, but all are centrally located in/near Syntagma Square area which is an ideal base for sights as well as transport! You'll always find reviews going either way.. I basically look for least an 80% thumbs up average and go from there;-) NJV is smack ON Syntagma Square.. RO is a bit further out but does have a pool.. agree to check Electra Palace and compare rates.. it's too has pool.. on the rooftop along with a café/bar/restaurant:-) Depending on *when* and how long you plan on staying, a pool may come in handy, especially the for kids:-) Happy planning.. and EnJOY!

Centrotel is very nice, if you can handle the sketchy neighborhood.

Its only 2 metro stop from Syntagma, and 3 stops from Acropolis.

For the price, and considering the luxurious rooms --- its the best hotel value in all of Athens!

That is where we are staying -- next time we come to Athens.

If you are not in need of a pool, you may want to check out the Hermes, & Plaka Hotel, two standouts in this class, The Electra Hotel (different than lovely Electra Palace) is another star location, of clean, affordable, and comfortable, The Amazon and Cypria may fit if you are looking for clean, no frills great location properties, The "GB", mentioned above is fabulous...you are best staying near Syntagma, as Litsa mentioned. The Amalia and Athens Gate deserve a look..as a host of others. Have fun!
