Delphi site opening hours

Hi! We are going to Delphi on June 4, does anyone know if it will be operating on winter hours or maybe summer? Thank you, Tates

Winter hours.

You may want to have a look on previous threads in Delphi forum, as this question was answered only a couple of days ago, You may find various useful info by looking on older threads too.

Have a nice trip!

It was still winter hours when we visited on 12th May & there was no local info on when the situation would change. We got onto the site as it opened at 8am (& had it to ourselves for almost 1.5 hours in fact!) & an early start (ahead of coach tours) of course is cooler & allows ample time to see the site & the museum & also wander down to the Temple of Athena which was free entry & open anyway until sunset.

Please note that the access to the Castallian Spring remained firmly barred due to potential rockfalls. Having seen the results of other rockfalls on our recent travels, with huge boulders by the road, lots of debris in the road (brought down by heavy rain) & part of roads badly damaged in remoter areas we appreciated not being put at risk!

BTW - Mariha - thanks for your input on my own previous questions re Delphi. We enjoyed it & made it to the Corycian Cave also!

Great Tsipouro! I'd like to read about your explorations up on the mountain in deed, not many people make it there!

Tates I am sure you'll enjoy your visit, especialy if you may be able to visit as early as possible!

Lunch is not the strong point of the area, dinner when locals bled in with visitors is, but you will still find very decent food:

On Vackhos tavern, next to Hotel Tholos on top of second street below church- usual grilled stuff and many nice cooked food options.

If you are into grilled meat, Gargadouas next to bus station is the place to go. Simple menu focused to lamb chops, steaks and the like grilled on coal fire, plus a few salads and starters.

A place with very varied and nice menu, a bit more pricey is To Patriko near bus station, opposite BP gas station, service is a hit or miss there but in general a good place.

Recently a plce that used to be a locals' favore and then become very touristy seems to have a strong "come back" .Epikouros, located about the middle of main road, next to No Name night club (this club keeps change names, so if you see a different name don't sweat it lol) and near Hotel Pytho gets good feedback nowdays.

All those places -except Gargadouas which is a simple closed room with pictures of old Greek moovies on the wall-, offer great valley views. In case you are about to enter on of those places and you see a large tour group, it is better to avoid, mostly because ambiance will be lost and service might get a bit slow, otherwise food quality will still be there. A couple of those places serve tour groups occasionaly, but are not those kind of restaurants that serve only tour groups. They are favored by locals mostly.

If you are into a quick snack such as sandwiches, pizza, spaghetti etc, cafe-bar Astra (opposite bus station) and cafebar Agora (200 metres away of BP on your right hand, 100 metres before Epikouros) offer those and they have the views too : )

It is very rare to find this in Greece, but we were disappointed by the choice of eating on offer in Delphi. Everywhere seemed much of a muchness & there was an atmosphere of food being served to people who would perhaps only be there for one or two nights & probably never return. Which is a shame because we certainly intend to go back as apart from the actual classical site we saw the area as having potential for some good walking.

We ate at To Patriko - not cheapest but not over-expensive considering the good quality & whilst the service was efficient it was not the Greek filoxenia we know & love. But they have a great garden terrace overlooking the magnificent scenery! Good enough for us to go back there for our second night in the town.
