Hey and welcome cxc-us:-) When will you be traveling?;-) *Realistically*, you're looking at about a 2.5-3 drive from the airport to Delphi.. you'll hit the highway from the airport straight off:-) From Delphi to Olympia, figure about 3.5-4 hours;-) EnJOY!
We are planning on late Aug / early Sept, and want to leave ATH around 8-9 in the morning.
Google map says ATH - Delphi 2h10m, Delphi - Olympia a little over 3h, not knowing local road conditions and traffic, I'd like to verify those numbers.
My pleasure:-) Well, you did say *realistically*, lol;-) It can certainly take less but considering it's a foreign Country.. your first time on the roads, etc.. giving you some leeway;-) Stay to your right and let the fast driving locals just pass.. and keep Enjoyin'!
While we are on the topic, do you know the realistic driving time from Olympia to Navplion? It seems to go through mountain roads a bit.Edited: 24 June 2014, 03:40
Always add a bit to the Google maps times for driving in Greece. Google doesn't take account of the narrow, winding rural Greek roads or the likelihood of getting stuck behind a tractor or a herd of goats, or the number of times you will want to stop and look at the view. Locals are familiar with the roads and often drive very fast - don't try to copy them. Take your time and move over when possible to let locals pass you.
The drive from Olympia to Nafplio would take you, I'd guess, around 3 hours without stops. But you will want to take all day about it, as you'll be passing through the stunning province of Arcadia, with some of the most beautiful landscapes in Greece. it would be a shame not to explore one or two of the medieval hill towns including Dhimisana, Karytena and Andritsena. If you can, plan to stay overnight in this area and explore it properly. roughguides.com/destinations/…
Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately time is an issue, unless the hill towns are right en route, we won't have the time to explore.
Wonder if the area resembles Tuscany?
