Looking for quiet, moderately priced holiday

My wife and I are looking for a quiet place to stay in September with pool or easy beach access, not in a resort . Could be in the mountain / village. Would be good to have beautiful walks nearby. We would be flying in to Irakleio and hiring a car (have done this before).

Any suggestions?

Hi there

Anissaras is a small coastal village with some development, about 22 kms east of Iraklion airport. It has a superb beach, a choice of bars and restaurants, a couple of small shops, car hire and an ATM. Here's the general area...

We always stay here... www.mikesbeach.gr

They are basic, but clean and spacious apartments that are a 20 second walk from the becah. All apartments have an en suite, a kitchenette, aircon and a balcony. We have stayed at Mikes many times and always had a totally relaxing holiday. Note that the rates are per apartment per day and not per person, making them exceptional value.

Hello there

Not quite sure if this is what you are looking for but have a look at this beautiful stone House which is located on the beach, its booked via a local hotel in Agios Nikolaos....see what you think - it is quite isolated but as you have a car should be no problems its around 5 mins drive from the local village of istron and 15 mins drive from the town of Agios Nikolaos too

Have a look at what Freelance Holidays have to offer. They have houses and villas, many with pools, in some of the nicest areas around Chania. You'll have a two-hour drive from Heraklion, but they do have some very good places which might suit your requirements. They are a good firm, and know their properties well, and can tell you about walks as well as the amenities of their properties.

If you click on "Villas with pools" the first one that comes up is Maro's Spitaki. We stayed there several years ago and liked the house very much - it was before the pool was built, so it's probably even nicer now. It's in Varipetro, near the waterpark, so ask about noise and traffic, which may have changed the ambience a bit.

There are good walks in most parts of Crete. The very best of them are in the south west, in the area of Sfakia, Loutro, Agia Roumeli and Sougia - all small, quiet, coastal villages with wonderful mountain backdrops. The area is really a bit too far from Heraklion, but if you are interested please say, and I can tell you more about it.
