Does anyone know what this is?

On Google maps, directly south of Ag Varvara/Hellenic Palace, Sissi and before you get to the E75, there is a HUGE triangular building!

It looks as if there are many floors to it and it is in the middle of farmland and olive groves.

I've thought solar power plant, a hotel, wine/oil processing factory but can't get a clear enough image to work out what it is...........It is driving me mad!

Does anyone know? :O) :O)

PS I have tried rotating the image and it may be flatter than I originally thought so maybe it is a solar power farm????????

Morning C-a-H

Found it and have had a good look. The structure sits on a more-or-less north/south and east/west axis and so I reckon it's a solar energy farm, maybe in the process of being made ready for use, as there is no elevation to the individual panels. At first I thought it might have been a huge collection of glasshouses but I can't see, even on maximum magnification, any real height to the structure

We've booked for Crete this September now, we had to hold back a bit as we had worries about Mrs GBs job but those issues have been resolved now so I booked us two flights to Iraklion yesterday.

I've had a look at this now. My money's on greenhouses, the justification for that being that if you zoom out, you can see a lot of very similar structures nearby, particularly east of Malia. If you do the timeline, some of these were there in 2002, before anyone ever thought of solar farms. Also the place CaH describes was a cultivated plot of land in 2002.

But I agree it could be a solar farm.

A good excuse to go to Crete and find out...

Hahaha! Nipped out and when I came back all your posts had appeared.

Great news GB. That must be a weight off your mind.

Steve........ What you say is interesting and you could be right.

We shall see in June UNLESS don't get a reply from someone local and in the know before then :O) :O)
