Hi

Chania or Rethymnon would be my choice if I were you.

Chania is bigger than Rethymnon both have a beautiful Venetian era harbour, beautiful old towns. Rethymnon has very large in town beach, and the beautiful venetian castle of Fortezza. Chania has also very interesting museums.

Rethymnon is 1h drive west from the airport of Heraklion as Ag.Nikolaos is 1h from the same airport to the east. Chania is 1h45min west from the airport of Heraklion.
