Trips from Chania and Rethymno with the bus

Hi,

we are going on our first trip to Creete in May. We will spend one week in Chania and one week in Rethymno.

We don´t want to rent a car, we are planning to do some trips with the bus. Any suggestion?

We are considering Baloos and Preveli Beach and we also want to visit the Botanical Garden close to Chania. Could anybody tell me which bus goes there? Thank you..

There are lots of great places to go. Here are all the timetables, including Preveli, Kissamos harbour (for the boat to Balos) and the Botanical gardens:

The main line along the north coast:

From Rethymnon:

From Chania:

From Kastelli, in case you wish to walk to Balos from Kaliviani:

and, in case you need it, the Chania airport bus timetable:

I would suggest you also look at visits to some of these places:

From Rethymnon: Spili, Arkadi, Plakias, Agia Galini, Georgioupolis.

From Chania: Stavros, Kolymbari, Kissamos, Falarsarna, Elafonisi, Chora Sfakion, Sougia and Paleochora

Thank you very much, Steve! The timetable ist great.

Do you know, if the bus stop in Fournes is close to the Botanical park?

I've never been myself, though I must have driven nearby at some point. I presume you've already seen their website:

www.botanical-park.com/PagesNc.aspx…

The location is not too far past Fournes, it's about 4km. But it's also up a steep hill, it's 100m higher than Fournes. So if you want to see Fournes, or use the better bus service form Fournes rather than one of the 2 a day which go to the gardens, I would consider getting the bus to the gardens but walking back to Fournes - downhill - afterwards. I presume you will have to walk on the road, but I don't think it will be very busy.

I don't know how long you would expect to stay there, but it seems to me from a first glance that the buses which go to and from the gardens are timed too far apart, unless you want to stay for over 4 hours. Maybe there's enough to see there to stay for that length of time.

Does anyone know the best day tour company to use in Crete?
