Spinalonga

Hi there,

going to Ag Nik next week and want to visit Spinalonga Island. Anyone else do this? What's the best way to do it without paying through the nose for a Thomas Cook tour there?

Cheers,

Hi there

There are a few different way that you can visit Spinalonga, you can catch the tourist boats from the harbour in Agios, tickets can be purchased from many of the tourists agencies in the town, the price is around 13 euros.

Or you can catch the fishing boat from the village of Plaka this costs 8 euros and then 2 euros to get onto the island. The first fishing boat leaves Plaka at around 10 am this mean that you get onto the island before all the hoards of tourists arrive off the tour boats from Agios and Elounda.

Plaka is a lovely village with some great fish tavernas, and a small beach too. You dont say if you are hiring a car?? if not there is a good bus service from Agios to Plaka, here is a link:

Quailzo, there are several ways of getting to Spinalonga from Ag Nik & if you look back you'll see several threads with more details.

Briefly

- Ag Nik itself, there are a few options from the harbour from the boats that just travel there & back up to to the half day, guided tour, swim & barbecue trips.

- Elounda, regular service which takes about 25 minutes IIRC.

- Plaka, every 30 mins & takes just over 5 minutes.

The 2nd & 3rd options can be reached by bus from Ag Nik if you don't have a car, but there are offices like Nostos & Buzz, who run most of the boats in the harbour, on main street of Ag Nik you can pre-book through or you can just turn up and pay if you find out the times they leave before.

Thanks very much for that.

Not hiring a car, so it's likely we'll be getting the bus.

Thanks again guys!
