Greek Air Traffic Controllers

Looks like some sort of strike action Thursday and Saturday this week and next Monday! Hope it doesn't affect anyone on here!

Hopefully this strike does not go ahead. My flight is Saturday. Worried now.

My flight is Saturday, also. Repacking to include necessary items in carryon just in case we are stuck in Geneva airport awaiting our flight to Athens on Sunday.

First of all they have to get approval to strike so maybe it won't happen! Fingers crossed.

If it's going ahead, and according to ABTA, it looks like Thursday 15th from

1400 to 1800 local time and then again on Saturday 17th from 0300 until 0300

on Monday 19th again local time. Not sure if it will mean outright cancellations but I would imagine so.

It depends on whether we are talking about charter flights or scheduled flights. Charter flights can't be cancelled as they will have people here waiting to go home. They may be consolidated or delayed but they will have to get here somehow!

Athena,

I thought that if the air traffic controllers went on strike, the airports would be closed for safety reasons. If that's the case, then nobody goes anywhere!

You're right - nobody will go anywhere that day or for as long as the strike lasts. But the fact remains that people on charter flights will have to go home eventually, so the planes will have to come for them at some time or other. The flights will just be postponed, not cancelled.
