Souvlaki House

A little while ago ago Lynneth posted about a souvlaki restaurant opening up in Elounda. Is it open yet & has anyone tried it?

Hi - sorry, yes it is open, it's right across the road from us and as a matter of fact we've just had our supper from there!!

The place is called 'Salonikios' and they do take out and eat in. They do the giros, salads and even whole chicken on spit roast...

we are working our way through the menu, and so far absolutely delighted with quality and price...recommend the cheese balls starter and the 'club' deals too. Watch out for the club extra large though - it's HUGE!!

Hi Lynneth,

could you give rough direction to where you are starting with you back to the sea at the harbour.

Thanks,

Keith.

OK...standing by the boat station for Spinalonga, turn left and walk towards MEGARO Restaurant. If you keep the sea to your left, and walk past them and continue about 50 yards, you will see a set of stone steps at POULIS restaurant.

Walk up the steps and you will come out across the road from MARIO'S Bar. The slouvlaki house is literally just there on your left at the steps, across the road - you can't miss it!

Walking on the road, make as if you are walking out of the village on the road ( same way the buses and traffic goes)you pass the bars - Alyggos, Friends, Evangelia's, and up the slight hill past the jewellers Kreta Gold and Aristea Hotel. You will see Trilogy Souvenier Shop on your right, and Mario's Bar across the road a little higher on the left his sign is a big white 'M' on an orange background...Salonikios is there.

That OK?

O, by the way, the sign is in Greek - ΣΑΛΟΝΙΚΙΟΣ - and there's a picture of an old stone tower on the boards in black and white

Hi Lynneth,

thanks for the directions.

2 years ago was our first holiday in Crete and we stayed DBB at the Blue Palace ( we always do this the first time somewhere new) but we had lunch out in Plaka and Elounda. This year we are BB so we hope to try quite a few more restaurants in the area.

Thanks,

Keith.

Just returned from Elounda and ate there a few times. Food was plentiful and delicious. Under 30euros for 4 people each time, including wine! Lovely place very friendly helped to make up for our disappointment that Periyali being closed this year owing to family illness but will reopen next year according to Thanos from Periyali who is working here at Salonikios in the evenings

Hi simon - there's a new bistro bar going out to the Causeway called Rady's - building a good following...Mavrikiano also now has Palio (old Kantouni). the son Marinos is running this now and has refurbed and reopened - getting a lot of repeats. the Hope is still spectacular...Miakoda is shut now :( despina's going strong, as are all the usual haunts here :)

Looking forward to seeing you guys
