Hire a car or catch a bus to Loutro?

Hi

My wife and I are going back to Rethymnon for a week in September. We are going to Loutro for two nights during that week. We visited Loutro last year for a day trip and left our hire car in Chora Sfakion whilst we were there. As we are staying in Loutro for two nights this year it seems a waste of money to park a hire car up and not use it for a couple of days.

Therefore is there a bus that leaves Rethymnon at a decent time to get us to Chora Sfakion so that we can catch the ferry and vice versa for the trip back?

Many thanks.

Most of the hourly Rethymnon-Chania buses have stop in Vrysses, where you can change for the Chania-Chora Sfakion bus. You can see the timetable here:

bus-service-crete.com/timetabledet.php…

To catch the 10.30 am ferry you would have to catch the 7 am bus from Rethymnon to meet the 8.30 Chania-Chora Sfakion bus, which connects with the ferry. It would be much quicker in a car, but if you aren't having a car for the whole of your holiday it's a waste, as you say, to park it for two days.

For the return you would take the late afternoon (18.10) ferry from Loutro to Chora Sfakion, the 18.30 bus to Vrysses, and the 19.45 bus back to Rethymnon. Again, it would be much quicker in a car.

Here is the ferry timetable:
