I've come out of the closet

One of my new years resolutions was to introduce myself to you all. I've been 'lurking' on this forum for quite some time, reading and learning about the wonderful Cyclades Islands. You see I felt it was time to let you know that I appreciate the time and effort you put into answering questions, and sometimes it's the same ones over and over again.

I've wanted to visit Greece **forever**, but have always given into the needs and desires of others in my family. My son's are off to college this next year and I've decided that the next trip will be mine. And guess where I'm going!!!! It's still off a bit, but for once it is a reality..

My name is Janeane... and I'm pleased to finally meet each of you.

Janeane ... welcome, welcome, welcome! I too, wanted to visit Greece "forever" (actually, since high school), but it took me many decades to take the step--and now it is my main thing! Of course I walk around, see my family and friends, eat, take courses, do work ... but really, inside, when people think I am listening to them, I am seeing white villas, deep blue water, orange sunsets, silver-grey olive trees. Sigh.

I was listed as "history" expert because I do blather on about such, but I also rant on about transport -- RT flights, domestic, flights, ferries busses, etc. AND I think transport decisions come before others, like sights & hotels. These are especially key if your time is limited. If you have 3-4 weeks, some delay, slowness or backtracking is OK, but if time is precious, you need to minimize travel time.

Examples: If you plan Athens + Islands trip, u can save 1/2 day at least by only going into Athens ONCE, at trip's end. You do this by taking a domestic flight immediately on arrival. In turn, this requires getting into Athens AP by noonish... harder when u come from USA west coast, but do-able.... sounds as if u have time to plan, and search engines like Kayak & Mobissimo may yield bargains, especially a bit off season.

Tell us when u hope to go -- as you have seen while lurking, Lots of us feel that May-June or September are the ideal times, everything's open, weather ideal, no crowds. Do share your thoughts, and we'll try to help, even if your trip must be in 2010... all the more time to daydream!
