Trip to Athens & Cyclades in October

My girlfriend and I will be in Greece from Oct 7-15 and are looking for some advice. We are planning to be in Santorini for 2-3 days, one other island for 3 days, and Athens for 2 days at the end. We realize that it will be fairly late in the season but we would like to avoid crowds and try to save a bit of money. We are considering Naxos, Paros, or Mykonos. We're hoping not to have to rent a car if possible, and would like to be able to spend time on the beach if the weather is nice enough. Would one of these islands be better than the others for an October visit?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

All three are comparable in many ways but Naxos and Paros are connected to Santorini by large car ferries. To go to Mykonos you would have to use one of the small catamarans that are not very reliable in rough seas. This is the only tangible difference, the rest is a matter of preference. All will be on the quiet side in October.

If saving money is a priority, you'll find Naxos and Paros cheaper to visit than Mykonos.

Since you specifically mentioned saving some money then the info provided by Ozzlem and Donny is great advice. The conventional Blue Star Ferry is much less expensive than the faster catamarans and Naxos and Paros both are far less expensive than Santorini and Mykonos for both food and lodging.

The season will be closing down so you should probably choose to stay at a main town so there will still be activity and you can go to the beaches. Naxos has a good beach at St George which is directly adjacent to Naxos town so you will get both beach and all the activities of town.

Here are some images of Naxos town.

I would agree with the Naxos suggestion - I think Naxos town would be a little more lively than Paros. And with the money you save by not going to Mykonos, you could rent a car. It's a great island and there's a lot to see on it.
