two many islands???

Our basic plan is Paros for 3 nights- ferry to Mykonis & Delos for 2 nights - ferry to Naxos for 3 nights - to Santorini for 3 nights - then Crete for 8 nights. Are we trying to do too much? We will have spent 4 days in Athens & taken a 3 day Classical tour.

We are not into beaches or crowds - like quaint villages - taverns & food

Any others islands we should do instead?

When are you travelling? If it's during July or August, you're going to find crowds on Mykonos and Santorini.

Some people may say it's a bit rushed, but it is possible. I would put Mykonos before Paros, though. It makes more sense ferry-wise. The logical order is Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, Santorini.

I would skip the two nights on Mykonos and make a day-trip from Paros or Naxos to visit Delos and take a brief look at Mykonos town. Best ferry connection is Paros >1 hour to Naxos > two hours to Santorini, on the Blue Star ferry.

Periscope's idea is a good one if those day trips operate in May. Someone on here will know. Also, they only run on certain days of the week, but since you are planning to stay 6 days on Paros/Naxos (and maybe longer if skipping Mykonos), that shouldn't be a problem.

This photo shows posters advertising the daytrips to Delos/Mykonos (and other islands): http://flic.kr/p/iPzFAV

Signs like these were posted outside a number of travel agencies in Naxos Town and at Agios Prokopios on May 23, so the excursions must have been available by then. We took one in May several years ago.

That is good news & probably the best way. It will give us 2 more nights in Naxos or Paros

Thank you

They usually say June, but I have experienced that they start earlier according to demand. Mid May should be fine.

The Delos tours is operated by the same boats from Naxos and Paros (Naoussa). You may get more accurate information from Naxos Tours www.naxostours.net/cruises/dilos-mykonos/

or parosbooking.com/index.php…

Alexander is a faster and more comfortable boat than Naxos Star.

The only suggestion I'd add to the excellent advice you've received is to start in Crete and then work your way back to Athens. That will put you in Naxos and/or Paros in late May or early June, which will pretty much guarantee that the day trips to Delos will be running.

Also, be sure to take in a concert at the castle in Naxos town.
