Top 10 tips/advice for visiting Mykonos?

Okay so less than 48hrs to my first trip to Mykonos and I'm so excited!

If you guys had a top 10 tips (of course you don't have to give me 10 ;) when visiting what would they be? Things to do, things to avoid? Tips about travelling or avoiding any dodgy area? Any known scams, etc? Any tips/advice most appreciated!

The Little Venice seaside area is a great spot to go for cocktails, especially at sunset, but the food at most places there (apart from Aqua and Sea Satin Market) can be mediocre at best for a very high price. If you do want to order a bite to eat there, always check a menu or ask for prices before ordering. Since the entire area is a tourist trap, some items can be exorbitantly priced. The same advice can be applied to places along the harbourside, though the food there doesn't tend to be as expensive and portions can be much more generously sized.

Most restaurants post menus out front so you can check prices before taking a table. If you're travelling on a budget or concerned about food spending, always check menu prices before ordering. I hear many complaints from people who got stuck with €100+ lunch bills because they just walked into a place that looked really nice and ordered without checking prices.

Fish and seafood prices are horrendously high, based on weight, so never order a seafood item without first being advised what it will cost. One of the biggest dining complaints from tourists to Mykonos and Santorini is the sticker shock travellers got when they ordered seafood without first ascertaining the price, and then got stuck with an enormous bill at the end of their meal.

A restaurant "scam" of sorts to which many tourists fall victim occurs fairly fast just as soon as customers sit down at a table. A waiter will bring a large bottle of water and/or basket of bread to the table even if not requested; often the waiter will immediately open the water and start pouring it into glasses. If you don't want the water or bread, tell the server as soon as he approaches with it and before he opens the bottle. Otherwise, you'll be stuck with an additional charge of several Euros tacked to your bill.

If you want to visit Delos, aim to catch the 9 a.m. boat and once you're on the island head immediately to the area with the mosaics to beat the crowds that will descend there after the 10 a.m. boat arrives.

Apart from that, just go with the flow and enjoy. Too many visitors try to pre-plan their time on Mykonos to the minute detail, and that's no way to enjoy this terrific chill-out island.
