ferries naxos/mykonos to koufonisia and back

Hi everyone. Just wondering if anyone can help us with ferry connections. We are staying in naxos(flight from mykonos) from 25th june to 9th july and would like to stay on Koufonissi for 2 nights of our stay.

Does anyone know about ferry connections to and from Koufanisi please. Not sure whether to stay on our return journey to mykonos or on our way to naxos. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

The 'Express Skopelitis' departs from Naxos > Koufonisi 6 days a week excl Sunday at 15:00. There are other ferries some days at other times with Bluestar ferries or Seajets.

You could go right from Mykonos to Koufonissi in one day. Seajet 10:00 Mykonos > Paros, Bluestar 12:30 Paros > Naxos, 'Exp Skopelitis' 15:00 Naxos > Koufonissi.

It' s convenient to leave Naxos until last as you'll have to go there anyway to get back to Mykonos.

I would give youself at least 3/4 nights on Koufonisi.

Thank you so much Retired Hippy. Thats so helpful. We might just change our itinary around. We land at Mykonos at 13.35pm. So is 15.00 exp skopelitis running every day? You dont know if there are any ferries after that time in case of flight delays. Any extra tips in Koufonissi welcome. Thanks again.

Like RH says there are several options for ferries, "Express Skopelitis" being the most frequent.

There are no flights between Mykonos and Naxos, and you will not be able to get the same day "Skopelitis" when landing in Mykonos at 13:35 pm.

On June 25th there is a possibility that you can get a connection with one of the usual excursion vessels between Mykonos and Naxos (appr. 1 hr transfer). They are out of the excursion schedules on Fridays, when they do passenger transfers between the two islands. Check in at the old harbour and find whether "Naxos Star" or "Alexander" are available. Sikngle tickets can be bought when you enter.

Hi again,

The 'Skopelitis Express' runs every day 15:00 except Sunday Naxos > Koufonisi.

A Bluestar ferry on Wed, Fri, Sun at 23:00 Naxos > Koufonissi (or 22:00 from Paros).

You may be able to get to Koufonissi the same day by using the excursion boat from Mykonos as detailed by greek-traveller above on the Friday, and then the Bluestar ferry but you will have long waits on Mykonos and Naxos and arrive at 01:30 on Koufonisi.

I would just book a night on Mykonos and do the connection the next day, saves you having long waits on the intermediate islands, depends how you like to do it really.

Koufonissi - Most accommodation is close to the main village which has several tavernas/cafes etc. Ferry ticket place on the main st with board outside detailing all ferries/excursion boats. Two roads go east across the island to Pori beach and some crumbling cliffs battered by waves. One road is inland across the centre takes about 1 hr to walk, the south coast road and track passes all the beaches and cliffs either roads end up at Pori beach (1½ hr) where there is a cafe. That's about it for the island.

Thank you all for the info. Think we are going to do Naxos first 10 nights then 2 nights Koufanisi and 2 nights Mykonos. Are you please able to tell us what time the ferries leave Koufanisi for naxos and are there ferries that go direct from Naxos to Mykonos. Also do you think we need pre book any ferry tickets in advance. Sorry for all the questions, your help is greatly appreciated.-Cheers.

i honestly dont think it is worth going to koufonissi for two nights.if you take the express skopilitos, you will not arrive until evening,i think it takes about four hous and it is a very basic boat .the blue star ferry is much better but as stated previously, that doesnt arrive until the middle of the night.for me,there is nothing much to see on koufonissi except fantastic beaches and a lot of building work but for the time and effort it would take to get there and back for just two days wouldnt be worth it .if you did go,the best way to get back to naxos is definately the blue star which i think arrives about 7 am and will have you to naxos for 9.30am.

naxos and mykonos are surprisingly poorly connected unless you can utilise the excursion boats which greek traveller mentioned.i think last year there was an hellenic seaways flying cat which came down from rafina to santorini via mykonos, naxos and ios and returned the same way.this would not get you to mykonos until late pm.things may be different this year but whatever is running would suggest that you spend your last night on mykonos in preparation for the flight home.you would not need to book ferry tickets before you reach the islands, just find an agent for the most suitable ferry for your journey and take it from there !

I would agree that it would not be worth spending just 2 nights on Koufonissi as you would arrive late in the afternoon and have to leave in the morning, giving you just one full day there (unless you go on the Blue Star, but it arrives about 02:00 am). The Skopelitis leaves Koufonissi for Naxos at 08:15 or about 09:30, depending on the day and arrives in Naxos by 12:00. You should be able to get to Mykonos the same day. On some days there is also a Blue Star ferry in the morning. If so, you might be better taking that to Paros as there are more connections between Paros and Mykonos than between Naxos and Mykonos. For reasonably accurate ferry schedules, look at www.gtp.gr about 3 weeks before you go.

There's no point in booking any ferry tickets before you go at that time of year, and in any case you can't book in advance on the Express Skopelitis. The only thing that may possibly be full is if you decide to travel between Paros and Mykonos (or vice versa) on the Flying Cat 4, but booking a few days in advance will be OK, i.e. you can probably wait until you are in Greece.

Eric, have you ever travelled on the excursion boats from Mykonos to Naoussa or Naxos? How do you go about getting tickets? And is it always possible to get on the boat?

Since you are travelling in late June/early July, there may be additional ferry services between Mykonos and Naxos. In high season Hellenic Seaways usually deploys either FlyingCat 3 or one of the highspeeds on that route.
