Help-Need to get out of Santorini to Italy

We have our hotel in Santorini booked and our flight to Santorini from Athens but are having trouble getting out of Santorini. We are trying to get to Italy (Postiano or Rome) and there seem to be no flights. We have tried to fly back to Athens and then Rome and that did not work. What are the options to go by boat and how long would it take? Are there private flight options (we have a group of 8 so we may be able to make the cost work???)

You're asking for help with booking ideas and scheduling options for ferry boats and planes but you have omitted critical information. When will you be travelling?

There are no direct flights from Santorini to Rome but Aegean does fly from Santorini to Athens and from Athens to Rome. Olympic Airlines flies from Athens to Rome as well. Have you tried both airlines? You can go online to look at both airlines' websites and you can call Olympic in NYC for assistance: 800-241-6522.

Depending on your travel dates there are also ferries that will take you back to Athens from Santorini. There's a 7.5-hour car ferry (Blue Star Ferries) and a 5-hour highspeed catamaran ferry (Hellenic Seaways). There are also other options from nearby islands. For example, you could take the ferry to Naxos or Paros and catch another ferry from either of these islands to Athens, or you could fly on Olympic from these two as well.

I have no information regarding private charter airlines, but Sky Express out of Crete might be an option. Send them an email (info@skyexpress.gr).

Have a look at:

They do fly from Santorini to Milan Bergamo (BGY) airport. You could fly from BGY to Naples using the same airline.

Or take the train(s) to Rome from BGY. Shuttle buses travel from BGY to other Milan airports etc.

Also from Milan Linate, the following flies to Naples:

There may be more but that is all I can think of the main ones for now. Hope that this helps.

Hi Victoria,

Sounds like your itinerary is close to ours. We are also going to be in Santorini heading to Positano. So far all I have found is the Aegean flights from Santorini via Athens then on to Naples....today the price is about US$318 per person plus tax. Pretty pricey. When are you going to be there, maybe we'd join your charter if you can find one! We are leaving Santorini on Saturday, May 12th.

I'll keep watching your post to see if anyone has a cheaper plan!

This may be way too exotic for what you want, but Louis Cruise Lines has a cruise leaving Fridays at 10PM from Santorini arriving at Messina Italy Sunday at 2:00pm. No idea if that would work. Could be worth a try.

Were you able to find a cheap way to get from Santorini to Positano yet? I'm still looking....
