Advice I've received on these forums in the past has resulted in some of my most memorable holidays to date, so I'm hoping someone out there might have some suggestions for an upcoming trip to Santorini.
Our group of six is headed to Santorini on the 30th August for four nights. We are all professionals in our late 20s (majority are journalists/in the media, but there's an engineer thrown in for good measure). We are all Australian, but I'm currently based in London.
It will be the first time in the Greek Islands for all of us, so we're a little unaware of the best areas to look for accommodation.
We are made up of three couples, so double beds and separate bedrooms are preferable but we can live with a couple of singles in one room or a sofa bed in the living area if necessary.
We have a couple of avid cooks in among us, so we'd like to get a self-catering apartment/villa (with a proper kitchen, not a kitchenette) so we can make the most of the local produce, and also keep down the cost a little bit by having breakfast at home. It would also be great to be able to walk to the main attractions (although this is not vital) and an outdoor area/verandah and view would be ideal.
I'm not sure what we should be aiming for budget wise - we're aware the Greek Islands aren't cheap - even in shoulder season. So in that instance, I'd be interested to know what you think we'd need to spend.
We're hoping to find something around the €300-€400 per night (for the entire house, not per person!) but could probably go to €450 or even more per night for something extra special.
If you have any ideas, I'd be very, very grateful.
And if there's anything I've forgotten, please give a gentle nudge!
All the best,
