Santorini for single 40 somethings?

My friend and I are single girls in our early 40's and are looking for a sun/beach holiday with a decent bit of nightlife but seriously want to avoid the 18-30/stag & hen do scene.

Would Santorini be a good place to go and if so, where would be best?

Definitely. Kamari (or Perissa) will be a good choice. They both enjoy a decent beach and a very nice seafront with many tavernas and bars. In the last 10 years I have never witnessed a hen/stag party, binge drinking or anything even remotely unpleasant.

Totally agree with the above comments, Perissa or Kamari should suit you. Of the two, Kamari is a bit livelier I think, Perissa is a bit more laid back.

You definitely won't find any 18/30 types, stag or hen parties - Santorini is too expensive for that sort of thing.

Check out my reviews, I think you may like my thoughts on Kamari. Half of the enjoyment I've had in my 17 or so wks visiting Santorini has been the friends I've met and the learning about the Greek culture. I'll send you my Virtual Tourist link, its a good overview that deals alot with the Kamari area and also has some other good info.. You can use the hotel reviews to see what fits your needs, keep in mind that some hotels book up early as they tend to have lots of return tourists.

I prefer Perissa, it is more "real" - I found Kamari much more commercialised, much too busy , too many shops all next to eachother and more pretentious. I Didnt feel that I was in Greece at all. Perissa for me any time, plus u can walk 30 mins down to Perivolos and there are some stunning bars on the beachside. The few nice clothes and arts and crafts type shops are spaced out better IMO.

Again, I'd have to agree with the comments in reply 4.

Personally, I don't like Kamari at all and in the unlikely event of any form of 18-30/stag/hen activity taking place on Santorini, it would be in Kamari and not Perissa.

Having said that, many people love Kamari and wouldn't touch Perissa with a 10 foot pole - you pays your money and you takes your choice.

I think either are nice, just I chose Kamari for my first trip and I keep going back, 5 tyrs now, could have eassily been just as happy with Perissa though it doesn't have the same large waterfront, shops-restaurants, walkway.

Hi Ladies

I think Kamari is your best place for lively nites! I have been going for the past 6 years, If you go in August its at its busiest, but it tends to attract a lot of tourists as it is near to Thira the capital, so if you want more nightlife there are many nice chill out bars and clubs,in Thira, very sophisticated and prices tend to be more than in Kamari,

Kamari has a nice beach with lots to do plenty of people watching! and you can catch the water taxi that goes around the mountain to Perissa...there is a fab new beachbar that opened last year with chill out music and relaxed hammocks next to the mountain,Perissa is nice but lacks the chicness of the facilities at Kamari....If you want some cool shops then Kamari is also the place! I know us girls llike some shopping.

I am from England but work in Kamari in a lovely jewellry shop...better not say where but if you want to ask me about the area I will be there from May!!!!!PS we are on the front and sell collections that noone else has!!!

HOpe you have a great hol xxx

Hi Lesley, do u know the name of the beach bar as it sounds right up my street and I wouldn't mind checking it out. Not sure if u meant Perissa or Kamari though. Many thanks.

I think the beachbar that Lesley is referring to is the new one in Perissa, at the end of the beach, near to the mountain. I can't remember the name of it, but it does sound nice.

It's owned by the same guy, Charlie, who runs the 2 Charlina's restaurants in Perissa and Perivolos, amongst other pies he's got his fingers in.

The one at the end of the beach is called "demilmar". And it is really nice. Here is a link to a picture of the entrance:
