Advice please

Hey all,

Will be in Santorini for a few days in the summer with my mother. I would like some advice as to what to see and do and also the best areas to stay in?

Finally does anyone know where I can find the ferry times to Naxos?

Many thanks

Visit Akrotiri, the archaeological site, Take a winery tour. Go to the Museum of Prehistoric Thera in Fira. Peruse the shops and galleries in Fira and Oia. Walk through Oia, the most beautiful village on the island. Have a meal below Oia on the wharf in Amoudi Bay. Visit the black sand beaches of Kamari and Perissa.

You should know that Santorini besides stunning views is the home of the oldest living vineyard in the world! This is something that most people are not aware of.

I think its a great idea to visit a couple of the wineries while being on the island.

You can do that on your own by taking a taxi, or you can sign up for a wine tour of the island that visits 2-3 different vineyards(wineries) preventing you from drinking and driving e.t.c. I dont reccomend driving and drinking to the wineries at all. Another more affordable solution is a "shuttle service" Boutari Winery started, between the winery and the town.

some links of the local wine activities:

Other sites-villages you have to visit:

Akrotiri

Oia

Kamari

Walk from Fira to Imerovigli and back. Or the Opposite(downhill)

If you have a big budget stay on the cliff, anywhere. Otherwise stay in Kamari.

The hike along the caldera path is amazing! The best thing I did the whole trip.

Keep in mind that if you walk the entire way from Fira to Oia, it will take several hours (round trip) and has many steps. If your just going to do a partial section, I would recommend Imerovigli towards Oia. Go as far as your comfortable, and then back.

About a quarter mile into the hike, there is a path that leads off to the left (labeled "Parking"). It leads down the caldera to a tiny church built into the cliff. Everyone walking the path just passed it by, as they couldn't see what was down there. it's worth going down. It was the bast part of the hike for me.

Bill, is it a quarter mile into the hike from Fira, or from Imerovigli? This hike is on our "to do" list. Thought we would take the bus back from Oia though, as we only have two full days in Santorini, and our list is getting longer the more time I spend on the forums!

It is a quarter mile from Imerovigli (the northern most point), on the way to Oia. Imerovigli is the highest point along the path. After you get to the peak, the path will decend for about 3/4 mile, before it starts going back up. This is the point where the smaller path ofshoots down the caldera. You can actually see the church once you are heading down from Imerovigli. It looks like a little white spec in the middle of the cliff.

I found a picture of the area online: santorin.gr/en/bilder/web/imerovigli16.jpg

You can see the church and the path leading to it in the middle of the caldera.
