Turkey to Santorini

Hello!

I will be traveling with two of my girlfriends in Turkey and Greece this summer. Because we are starting in Istanbul and ending in Athens, we are looking for the best way to get from Turkey to either Santorini or Mykonos. We have looked online at some ferry websites and many of the calendars are not posting dates for ferries until June 23, 2013. Does anyone have any experience getting from Turkey to the Cyclades? We are open to either traveling via plane or boat, just nothing outlandishly expensive.

Thank you so much for you time and suggestions!

The easiest route will probably be Bodrum-Kos-Santorini. There should be 2 or 3 ferries a day from Bodrum to Kos between May and September (journey time at most an hour), and there is a Blue Star service from Kos to Santorini at 8.35pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (arriving at 1.40 am) from 24 June to 13 September.

The alternative is likely to be Kusadasi-Samos-Mykonos; however, Samos-Mykonos services for this summer have not yet been announced. For the last couple of years there have been about 3 or 4 a week, but last year the service didn't start until mid-July since the ferry providing it was covering for a missing ferry on another route.

Here's a posting about travel between Istanbul and Santorini by air:

Maybe send Nessie27 a private message to see if she has anything more to add about her experience with Skytours.

Hi, have just posted a message on the "Skytours" posting.

You haven't mentioned what date you are intending to travel. I have just had a look at several dates in July, to get an idea of fares, and it appears they start from US$170 (not taking into account the overnighters at Athens airport - they are a little cheaper). Depending on the date you could be from airport to airport in 4 hours. If time is precious to you then I would be opting to fly - its going to take you the best part of a whole day (at least) to do the trek from Istanbul to Bodrum and then ferries to Kos & Santorini.

Hi there,

I'm planning on travelling with my Husband, from Turkey (maybe Bodrum) to Santorini..Guessing via Kos or Samos...in early December this year. Can't find any info anywhere on ferries for that time. Can you help at all?

RaeS223-

It might not be possible to get to Kos or Samos in December. You just won't know until sometime in late-Fall when ferry schedules are updated. You can keep checking here to make your determination:

If you can get to Kos or Rhodes that would probably be your best chance for Santorini by ferry. There is no ferry from Samos that stops at Santorini. You'd have to make a connection on a different island, probably Syros, _IF_ you can get to Samos.

Greek island ferry schedules for next December will also not be available until late fall: http://www.gtp.gr

hello!! the shcedule for the greek ferries is not anounced early for winter. there might not even be a connection to Kos or Rhodes from Turkey in winter time.

during summer there are many touristic ferries from Turkey to the Greek islands every day (Samos, Rhodes, Kos, Lesvos) but there is not a connection to Mykonos or Santorini every day!!

you might have to go through Syros to Mykonos.but the exact itinerary is not fixed yet.the connection from Mykonos to Santorini started only a couple of weeks ago! and there is not still a ferry from Samos to Mykonos...!!
