Deciding to fly back to Athens or take the ferry ?

Hello

We are staying in Santorini and will need to travel back to Athens on Wednesday the 25th of June

we are thinking of taking a flight and having more time on the island that day ?

Or taking a ferry back to Athens ? in the late afternoon maybe 3 or 4 pm ?

Is that even possible ?

and , If we do that ... is it like 4-5 hrs on a ferry ? what is the cost of the ferries ?

it doesn't have to be exact, a range will do.

Thank you in advance

A 'regular' car ferry takes about 8 hours to get back to Athens and costs about €38 for the cheapest ticket. A highspeed ferry takes 5 hours and the fare is almost double.

So far the ferry schedule for June 25 shows 3 departure times, 12 noon, 2:40pm and 3:30pm. The first two are highspeed ferries.

PLEASE FLY!

The flight is 45 minutes (the plane doesn't even have enough time to get to its maximum altitude). We flew from Santorini to Athens with Aegean Airlines for $128 per person. Definitely worth the extra money. In reality, you also have a whole extra travel day in your itinerary because you go from 8 hours to 45 minutes of travel...

Food for thought :)

We prefer to fly too. Just be aware that Aegean sound cheap but will charge you extra for baggage - check before booking.

Tomkathy makes a good point. Aegean, like many European airlines, have stricter baggage restrictions (if I'm not mistaken, your maximum weight is 20kg instead of the regular 23kg). But, the upside to this is that to check an overweight bag, or even an extra bag, is only 20€ with Aegean...

Hi Carolina. Definitely fly. The Aegean web site is easy to use and you can book yourself no problem. Why sit on a ferry for all those hours when the cost is likely to be close to the same amount as the fast ferry.
