Andros Greece

We think about going to the island of Andros, Greece, but find it hard to get a good impression of the island from the books we have. Are the beaches as bad (litter, pebbles) as some write or as wonderful as others say? Are the mountain villages gorgious or dull? Is Batsi an overcrowded tourist trap or a pretty resort? The often muddy pictures on the internet do not really help. Anyone been there?

when are you going? Andros is beautiful...the beach in Batsi is shaley but other beaches off the road are lovely and sandy....Batsi holds a lovely small British community who are very helpful and will give you great advice....several of my family and friends live there and have been so many times....the island does not have a massive tourist base as most of the holiday companies went bust and is visited by many greeks holidaying or visisting family.....the mountains have spectacular views but other than the odd sml village there is nothing up there other than green and views....hora is the centre great for shopping a nite at kossies in gavrion is a greek nite you would never ever forget.....lovely place lots of things to see and do...but more relaxing than anything in the square watching the world go by
