Kos Town or Kefalos for young couple?

Kos Town or Kefalos for young couple?

Thinking of booking a last minute holiday to Kos mid-september with my boyfriend (ages 21/22)

Been looking at both Kos Town and Kefalos all day and feeling a tad bit overwhelmed!

Want to spend most of the day time lying on a sandy beach and the rest of our time exploring any cultural/interesting sites (we probably won't be renting a car - so places reachable by foot)

Not looking for any "mad" night outs (nothing like laganas - zante!) but would like the option to get a bit drunk on the odd evening at a fun bar - not sure if kefalos is too quiet?

Also on quite a tight budget, I was wondering how much on average people spend in either resort for a lunch and also for a dinner for 2 with a beverage.

Thanks in advance :)

IMO, I think that you'd probably get more out of Kos Town, seeing what you are expecting. There is more cultureto be found in Kos, seeing that it is your first visit and your age range. Don't get me wrong, Kefalos is lovely, we go each year.

if you have a simple meal at lunch time, say a giros pitta or a Greek salad, together with a beer, it shouldn'cost much more than 12 -15 Euros for the 2 of you. At dinner, say 25 -30.

Hope this helps.

Kos Town sounds like it would be best for you. The suburbs of Kos Town are Lambi and Psalidi. Lambi, on the northwestern side, has a far better beach, and the further you walk out of town the quieter it gets.

Loads of restaurants and bars of course, and more antiquities than you can shake a stick at.... Food can be more or less any price you want it to be, from €3 or less for a gyros pitta, the same for a large beer, ideal for a snack at lunchtime, to €8-€10 for most main courses, wine is about €5 per 0.5 litre. It's the drinks later on which may be a budget-buster!

KT also has the bus station, so you can travel to many other places on the island (including Kefalos)

Take a look at Tigaki, it has one of the best beaches on the island, a handful of bars that stay open late, plenty of good tavernas/restaurants and Kos Town is only a very short bus or taxi ride away for your culture fix.

Either Lambi or Tingaki would suit. Beware Psalidhi's poor , pebbly beach.

Round Kos town/port bicycles are very popular , there are dedicated cycle lanes. From Lambi to Tingaki is a nice flat ride along the sea for most of the way with lovely views out to sea with Kalymnos, Pserimos and Asia Minor.

Most boat trips leave from Kos port - the exception being to the active volcano of Nisyros - the boat leaves from Kardhamaina

Tingaki beach is nicer than Lambi and you also get a lovely sunset. A day in Kos town will be enough to see the antiquities. A road train goes to the Asklepeion - a must see site.

The tour companies in Tingaki offer pick up and return to your accommodation. It usually works out about 5eu pp dearer than in Kos for the transfer to the port for boat trips.

The bus fare from Tingaki to Kos is 2eu pp one way and takes about 20 mins. Returns aren't sold.

The excursion offices run coach trips to Kefalos , Zia and Paradise beach. Around 10eu pp.

Thank you all, great tips and advice. I've found a really decently priced b&b in lambi so will probably go for there. Will definitely take a day trip to tigaki and explore the area. Can't wait to get there now :)

It's worth going down to Kefalos for a day by coach excursion or KTEL bus. Interesting village and then down the hill to the beach with water sports, tavernas etc.

Theokritos Travel has an office in Lambi.
