which resort would suit us

Hi, were a 'young' Fifty yr old couple fancying a holiday on Rhodes, but we haven't got a clue which resort to choose, we like a lively ish place, with plenty going on, nice restaurants and bars, does this sound like Rhodes Town, Lindos or Pefkos, any ideas much appreciated.

Hi,

I would opt for Lindos. There are a wide variety of bars to suit all tastes and numerous lovely restaurants serving a wide variety of food. Never stayed in Rhodes Town but Marcus may see your post and provide his advice.

Cheers

I'm always surprised how many people recommend Lindos as a place to stay. Granted, I've only paid day visits there but find that enough. For me it has to be Rhodes Town every time. There is so much to see and do and the bus links with most of the rest of the island are good.

Hey

Shirlthewhirl: It is hard to choose between Rhodes Town and Lindos, they are both very different but with great qualities and it comes down to personal choice

Rhodes Town

Cosmopolitan

Lots of things to see and do and great history and attractions

Perfect location for day trips around the island or other islands

Great restaurants and bars

Public Transport hub for East and West

Cooler and windier than Lindos

Beaches can only be described as ok

Indundated with cruise ship passengers during the day but it can cope

Doesnt feel as personal as Lindos

Lindos

Unique atmosphere and feels personal

3 fantastic beaches

Unique location, white cube properties up the hillside beneath Acropolis

Great rooftop restaurants/bars located underneath 'lit up' Acropolis

Traffic free village with a maze of tiny streets

Better climate than Rhodes Town

Not as much to do as Rhodes Town but enough to keep you occupied

Not as convenient for trips to Rhodes Town and other islands, although possible.

During 10.30 to 4pm, village centre swamped by organised day trippers so hit the beach during these times and the uniques atmosphere returns after 4pm into the evening.

These are some of the pros and cons of each so enjoy your research

Pefkos is nice enough but you wont get a flavour of authentic Greece as it is a purpose built resort, nice enough though, chilled with good beaches/restaurants/bars.

Bob, unfortunately, those who choose to visit during the day will never experience the real flavour of Lindos. It can only be sampled and appreciated by those holidaying there and getting to know the village before and after the organised trips descend. Its hard to explain but if you ever stay there, hopefully you would enjoy.

Hey

shirlthewhirl

Sorry, forgot to mention that you should be aware that Lindos is built on a hillside so if staying in the village itself, there are downhill walks to each of the beaches which invariably means uphill walks back. There is also a big hill which leads down into the village itself from the main coast road but this is serviced by a free shuttle bus every 15 minutes during the day
