Day trip to Symi Sat, Sun, or Mon?

I have Saturday, Sunday, and Monday free in Rhodes and would like to take a day trip to Symi. I am thinking to go on Sunday, will places and shops be closed on Sunday? Thanks!

Er, no. They won't miss the opportunity to extract Euros from the daytrippers....any day of the week.

It does depend to some extent when in the year you intend to go. From May round to October pretty much everything will be open in Yialos, the port area, except the counter service areas of the banks, the Post Office, and the Town Hall. If you go this Sunday, March 16th, not so much will be open because the tourist season hasn't started, and tourist-related shops really only start their trading at Easter, regardless of the day of the week. There are cafes, bars, and tavernas open all year round.

In the upper town, Chorio, which not many daytrippers reach, some of the shops serving local needs (such as the bakery) don't open on Sundays even in summer. The Symi Museum is closed for refurbishment so it won't matter which day you visit, you won't see it.

Thank you for the info, we'll be there in May! Should we take the ferry from Rhodes Town to Symi or join an organized tour? Any tips is appreciated!
