Emelisse Hotel in Kefalonia

I have read numerous rave reviews of this hotel, however a few reviews really complained about mosquitos and wasps being particularly bad at this accomodation. These were from guests who visited in the Fall. We are looking at a July visit. Does anyone have a perspective on this issue during the month of July?

Mosqitoes are a problem really anytime when the evenings are hot and humid, the conditions they thrive in. There are lots of over-the-counter sprays and lotions you can take with you to minimise the chances of getting bitten but none of them are guaranteed 100% effective. July will be HOT in Kefalonia and quite often, the temperature will stay in the high 20's well into the evenings. Even in Autumn, the temps can still be very warm. We last went to Kefalonia in mid October 2006 and still had day temps of 28c. We went out every evening though after spraying with mozzie deterrent and neither of us were bitten.

Haha this is bringing back memories!

What ever you do take anti-mozzie spray as I got bitten quite a few times on my legs...and don't (whatever you do) fall asleep on the balcony of your room at night! (we didn't have air con!) that was a big mistake!

But if you are prepared you'll be ok...if you're really worried you can buy anti mozzie plugs for your room ...and wear those new electronic gadgets and/or autan to keep the midgies at bay

but it really wasn't as bad as it seems!
