Thessaloniki during Christmas...

Hello, is there working restaurants and taverns in Thessaloniki during the Christmas holidays - 24.12 and 25.12?

If yes - Do I need a reservation?

Any suggestions for a particular tavern/restaurant?

Most places are open during those days, and are indeed very busy.

What would you have in mind regarding food, so that we can give you some directions?

Regards,

Yannis.

Again, It would be nice to be aware of the budget that you are happy to spend.... but MY favorite place regarding sea food, wine and a nice enviroment (don't count on the quite place though, for such days. It'll probably be very very busy)... that would be the "7 Seas restaurant". One could say it's pricey, but I think that it deserves every last penny you pay.

Very good food, very good and fresh fish and a great list of wines and drinks!

The restaurant "Τα Γραδα" (Ta Grada) is also one of my favorites as well.

I am not sure if they have a website, but you'll find lots of info if you google it.

If you had something else in mind, don't hesitate to ask please.

Friendly regards,

Yannis.

The places that Telis has suggested are also suggestions of mine as well. I just thought of "7 Seas" first, but those places are very good as well.

You have a lot of restaurants to choose from downtown Thessaloniki.

I doubt it that the Mall, or any other commercial shop will be open on the 25th of December, or the 26th. They will be open until early evening though on the 24th.

I am only referring to commercial shops though, and not bars, restaurants, cafes and stuff.

Based on last year's experience the Med Cosmos complex is very busy during the holidays even during the times that the retail shops are closed. The Association of Retailers of Thessaloniki ('Emporikos Syllogos') usually decide on opening times for the Christmas holiday by the end of November. However Christmas and Boxing Day (December 26) are a holiday as is the first day of the New Year.

All big hotels have restaurants with special dinners/lunches for the period, at a set price (usually no less than 50E per person excluding drinks, however sometimes children eat free!) Check out Macedonia Palace, Electra Palace, Les Lazaristes, Hyatt, Nicopolis, and smaller places like Mediterranean Palace, etc.

For good food and a guaranteed festive crowd (there's nothing worse than an empty restaurant on Christmas Eve!!) I suggest Clochard (expensive) and my locals 'Banquet', 'Place Mignon', 'Agyrovoli', 'Votsalo', 'Kapelas', 'Code vinum'. All these offer good value for money -agyrovoli and votsalo are specialised in seafood.

Let us know where you will be staying for more relevant suggestions in your area.
