Thessaloniki in May

I'm planning on being in Thessaloniki for a week during may, and I have heard about the Anasternaria festival in Langada form the 21st - 23rd. I have three questions:

1> should I go there for the three days, or go one day and go back to Thessaloniki? If i should go for the whole festival, is there affordable accommodation in the town?

2> is there available transportation to and from Langada?

3> would i be able to get back to Thessaloniki and be able to visit Vergina (for the Tomb of King Phillip II etc) on the weekend, or are the buses scarce/the museum closed?

I'm on a tight budget, around fifty euros a day, but my transport costs aren't included in that.

Any tips would be great as I haven't been to this region before!

Thanks :-)

1 )As to accommodation in Langadas (or Lagkadas) there should be affordable rates because of the fact that lots of people (mainly elders) visit the area for the hot baths.

2) You can get to and from Lagkadas using Thessaloniki's city bus (city public transport) that actually reaches most areas of the Thessaloniki prefecture (or regional unit).

Timetables of the group of buses that go to that area: http://oasth.gr/#en/masterinfo/list/16/17/ click a specific bus line and see the stops at the map below and the times. Note that "Sunday-off" means timetable for Sunday and days-off, as in national holidays, and does not mean that Sundays are off the schedule. Bus ticket is 0.80E one way.

3) To get to the Vergina museum you probably need to take 2 different intercity buses (KTEL), one to Veria (capital of Imathia prefecture) and then another to Vergina.

For Thessaloniki-Veria (and reverse) you take the Ktel Macedonia bus from the west part of Thessaloniki, info here: http://ktelmacedonia.gr/en/routes/list/tid=12

For Veria-Vergina (and reverse, round trip of many villages, not just Vergina) you use Ktel Imathia, info www.ktel-imathias.gr/… (greek only, 3rd table from top seems best for you with 2 stops before Βεργίνα). I found a telephone number for "Office for General Tourism" 00302331076007, maybe you can ask there.

I don't think you can buy both tickets together, but i wouldn't worry about finding seats. For the 2 part trip it should be around 10E or less one-way, even less for students or when buying return.

A page for the museum that seems legit and updated (greek only) states that the museum is open Mo:12:00-20:00, Tu-Su:8:00-20:00, full ticket 8E, reduced 4E. http://www.aigai.gr/visit/organize Best to contact them beforehand though.
