Nafplion and more..

Travel -1-10 October 2014.

10 days in Greece. Arrive Athens 2 nts to Nafplion 3 nts .

Question - We dont really have time to get to the Greek Islands however is there somewhere close to Nafplion that will give us a feeling of being on a Greek Island? features quaint pretty port town for a bit swimming, relaxing. Or is there an island easy to access for a 4-5 night stay.

Thanks

Any of the Argo-Saronic islands are accessible from Ermioni, a small port about an hour and a half from Nafplio. It's also very easy to return to Athens from them.

thanks for the idea of visiting these islands however concerned if there will be ferries operating from Ermioni to Hydra or other islands. Is Ermioni a nice place to stay if no ferries ?

hi,ermioni is a typical coastal village- ''town'' in greece..it is a nice place but it doesn't matter, you don't have to stay there ..here is the best site to find any ferry schedule in greece

http://www.gtp.gr/RoutesForm.asp

you type the starting point at the right of the first line, the destination point at the right of the second line, you choose the date and click ''search''.

then you click ''search'' once more time to confirm if everything is right and the schedules come up..

by doing the same thing,i found the schedules from ermioni to hydra for the first of october,

http://tinyurl.com/oc932o8

as you can see they are quite a few,so don't worry, you will find one.if you click on ''ferry route deails and booking'' you can find more info about the schedules.

you can use the same site to find ferries from the island back to athens..in destination point, type ''pireaus'',which is the main port of athens and where the ferries from the islands go

a question i can't answer is how you will get from nafplio to ermioni,is there a direct bus? if not you can return to athens from nafplio and take a ferry from pireaus port to the close saronic islands..

here are some info about these islands

Thanks athanasios, I have read that I can take a taxi to Ermioni. Really like the idea of a circle trip.

ATH- Nafplion - via Ermoini - ATH more time to explore these areas close to Athens and less longer distance travel to Islands far away.

keep in mind that for a long distance taxi you are also paying for the taxi to go back, because the driver is unlikely to find a client for the return part..nafplio to ermioni is about 80 kilometres,so the driver will have to do 160 ,so i would expect to pay quite a lot- a lot depends on what your budget is of course, what means a lot to me may mean nothing to you-.

here is a link i found with the local intercity buses

www.ktel-argolidas.gr/…

keep looking at this specific part of the trip, it starts from nafplo and passes through ermioni aparently,.

http://prntscr.com/40kilu

the first line timetables are from monday to friday, the second line for saturdays and the third for sundays and holidays..

i hope phillelene or someone else can confirm that there is indeed a direct bus between these two places.

The bus route in English: www.ktel-argolidas.gr/…

The last time I went to Ermioni, two years ago, the bus let us off at a cafe close to Epidavros, then we had to wait for another bus for an hour. There is, or at least was, a local Kranidi - Ermioni bus, but it didn't correspond with the Nafplio bus. Taxi Kranidi - Ermioni was 15 E. But it looks as the routes have changed now. To be sure, ask at the KTEL office in Nafplio when you arrive.

Two days a week, in summer, Pegasus Cruises sails Tolo - Hydra - Spetses - Tolo. Maybe October is too late in the season, but you could check it. Tolo is only 9 km from Nafplio, with a good bus service: www.ktel-argolidas.gr/…

A round trip is 34 euro, if you contact their main office it is possible to get a reduced rate for a one way trip, or so I've heard.
