First visit to Skiathos recommendations welcome

Hi Hoping to visit Skiathos in June this will be our first visit to the island, would like to stay on a self catering basis, local to good restaurants, bars etc without being to rowdy. Is this a good time to visit Greece considering their financial state of the country? Would appreciate some average prices of meals, drinks car hire.

Thanks in advance

Bluenose

Great time to visit, you can eat as cheaply or as expensively as you wish. Its all a matter of personal preference. Best thing is to go with the flow and explore. If its busy its good as a rule.

You will get many recommendations for tavernas and restaurants, but one thing is for sure, at the moment no-one knows who is working where this year yet. The staff do tend to move around, what was good last year, may just be that, as the chef moves somewhere else this year.

To get a feel of the place there are some links, top right on this page - See Top questions about SKIATHOS. That will be a good starter for you ...

Skiathos in June? It's the best, seriously.

As for where to stay, the whole island is at your disposal wherever you decide.

Skiathos & rowdy will never be in the same sentence.

Think "paradise"!

We enjoy Kolios. Sort of half way between Skiathos town & Koukounaries.

With just the one main road served by a regular bus, lots of people don't bother with car hire. This will be the 3rd year for us & have always hired a car as we have enjoyed independence of getting to all the wonderful beaches. We've previously travelled as a large family party & arranged car hire from the UK. However, our son hired a jeep for 3 days for less than 100 Euros last year.

If you haven't booked yet look at Cosmos / Monarch. Reasonable package deals.

As for meals out - where to start! A traditional Greek taverna (I'm dreaming of Anatoli!! :) can 't wait to return) less than 20 € a head for 2 courses with drinks and DDDDDevine! To be fair we've eaten even cheaper but you lose the view & the atmosphere. Then you have Infinity Blue & The Windmill where you can double that & some but an experience not to be missed.

18 weeks & counting for us!

Get ready!!!

Hi

I agree with Skiathoslover and The Happening. We have been to Skiathos in June for the last two years and have booked this year for two weeks from the 19th June (and the 28th August for a week). It's never a bad time to go to Skiathos. Plenty of places to stay and loads of places to eat. Just get booked and enjoy!!!
