Prices for Skiathos

We are thinking of visiting Skiathos in September for the first time. Can anyone please tell me the average price of food and drink and also the price for sunbeds. We have previously stayed in other parts of Greece and Cyprus and find that prices can vary for different islands. Have also read reports about September being windy and quite a lot cooler than August. We had decided to stay in September as we normally holiday in August but have found this to be very hot and wanted a cooler holiday, but obviously we do not want it to be too cold and rainy.

Hi Wolf13, 2 sunbeds and a parasol were 8 euros in 2013, don't know if that will change this year.(that was on every beach we visited, and that was a fair few). Food prices I think are pretty good, if your on a budget you can get very reasonable prices for food and drink, plus you can treat yourself to a more expensive meal if that's what you want. Cant answer regards staying September as due to work commitments have to travel in june or august, saying that we were there in late august last year and I didn't find it too hot and I am a sun factor 20 to 30 type. Would love to try September as it gets a little quieter then and the prices for flights and accom are cheaper. The beauty of skiathos for us is the friendliness of the locals, the beautiful beaches and the ease of getting around the whole island. Hope you book your hols to skiathos and if you do you wont regret it.

Sunbed prices are fixed by the Municipality at €8 for two beds and one sunshade.

Prices for food can vary a lot depending on where you decide to eat but like everywhere else you can eat as cheaply or as dear as you want. Prices usually are dearer in tavernas/restaurants along the harbour. Simple local dishes of chicken, moussaka etc can be found for around €8 but a fillet steak will be considerably more.

Many places along the harbour will have happy hours in the evening for cocktails, house wines are very reasonable, the cost of fresh fish varies the most so if you use an upmarket restaurant expect to pay quite high prices but go to somewhere like the local ouzeria (Kabarelias on the harbour for instance) and get a superb mixed fish platter for two for around €35.

Ah the weather, if only we could predict it. I have spent many Septembers in Skiathos and overall the weather has been good, last year for example we only had a couple of off days out of two weeks, the rest of the time was hot and sunny. Evenings can cool down quite a bit as you would expect.

I agree with Mrs Whicker about the weather. Can be a bit showery after the middle part of September. Been about three times in that month and mainly it has been beautiful but going towards October can be a bit hit and miss. But you will enjoy Skiathos, you can't fail to do that.

If it's fillet steak you are after, it will set you back about €22 each, but as Mrs W says, if you stick to the traditional Greek dishes €8 - €10 will be about right. Wine, probably about €8 a jug and beer about €3 - €5 a half litre.

For the two of us we budget for €120 a day, for everything, which includes sunbeds, lunches, bus fares, taxi fares, dinner, a few drinks and tips.

The weather as Mrs W says, no one can predict. Usually the first two weeks of September are very good, but we went one year and got 2-3 days of rain the first week. However, we went right at the end of September in 2007, and it was fantastic weather. One benefit of September is the sea is at its warmest.

Enjoy your trip.

Thanks to you all for your comments. Think we will definitely be booking holiday to Skiathos, one more question we will probably be flying from Birmingham, does the inbound flight land in Thassos before landing in Skiathos. Have seen something on line saying flights from East Midlands airport do.

Think we will now be flying from Manchester. Very disappointed to note that the airline is Small Planet as we had huge problems with them last year flying to Cyprus. A few days before we were due to fly out we had a telephone call from Olympic to say they had moved the flight time from early morning to late evening. Then when we were on holiday we were told the day before we were due to fly back that the flight had been changed from late evening to early morning. We therefore lost the first day of our holiday and the last day. Must admit we are having second thoughts about flying with them again. Just noticed post on this forum saying that they are already cancelling flights in July.

Hi Wolf, I think the changes for July have been done by Monarch/Cosmos/Avro, it seems they have transferred any of their bookings with SPA to their own aircraft (MON) flying a couple of hours later.

Here is a copy of a post made by Small Planet on the Air Travel Forum in January ...

:::::Two aircrafts (1 Boeing 737-300 and 1 Airbus320) will be based in UK and one aircraft (Airbus320) will be based in FR during the summer 2014 season. Also, as we have mentioned before, one aircraft (Airbus320) will be a stand-by unit for the extra cases. In this way we want to avoid any possible delays and to make sure all of our passengers are carried to their holiday destinations smoothly and on time. ::::
