South Jutland without a car

I hope to see my grandfather's family's old homesteads in Janderup

(mainly), Billund, Varde, and Esbjerg next month for a couple of days (I have the addresses and saw them on Google Earth). We don't plan to have a car, so can anyone recommend a way to get around that is not too expensive?

You can use the website www.rejseplanen.dk for public transport planning in Denmark.

Renting a bike can be an enjoyable way of discovering an area in depth and it´s usually widely available. Also, one can bring bikes on the local trains.

Naturally, taxis and car rental are the other options. Gas is around DKK 10-12 per Litre.

The regional public transport company is Sydtrafik which has a website, it´s all in Danish but includes contact information

http://www.sydtrafik.dk/k%C3%B8replaner

If you click on the yellow dots on the map, you´ll see a list of the PDF lines/schedules within each municipality, and thus a possibility of a print-out.

Google translate is a useful, if rudimentary, tool for dealing with translation.

As you probably know, Janderup has a charming website, albeit in Danish, including information about the local history archives in Aktivitetshuset building http://janderup.dk/lokalhistorie http://janderup-lokalarkiv.dk/kontakt/ The archives are closed in August, however.

As a side remark, taxis are not cheap in Denmark.

Thank you very much! I corresponded a lot with Viggo Mikkelsen of the Janderup Archives about 12 years ago when I was researching my Danish family. I think those websites will be very helpful.
