If you want the buffet, then yes pre-order. If you want to eat anywhere else on the ship, make a reservation as soon as your board. Be aware that drinks are not included with the buffet and you will pay top dollar for a coke or beer or wine with your dinner. The ship is really nothing more then a supermarket selling everything under the sun duty free. They will even give you a cruise if you buy enough stuff in their store. Breakfast is not that great and not worth the money IMO. Take food on board for breakfast and save some bucks.

wesheltonj: If you book Commodore Class you get breakfast included servered in a separate restaurant as compared to those who travel Seaway Class (who have to pay extra). A much better breakfast experience there IMHO. This added to the other advantages to Commodore Class do that I always recommend splurging a bit on the Oslo-Copenhagen ferry.

Alcohol is priced to be cheap compares to Norwegian restaurant prices and comparable to Danisk restaurant prices (high end).

How will the mini cruise will be during January? I mean with outside being cold? Is it worth a trip with a 3 year old kid?

Also i think the 2 nights mini cruise gives like 6 hours to be in Oslo...What can we do in 6 hours there?

Is there any interesting spot near the port that we can just visit and return to the port within time frame?

Your help is highly appreciated..
