abisko national park

We are traveling to Trimso and Abisko to see the northern lights. We will reach Abisko on 27th december by train from Narvik..We are booked for 2 nights at Abisko mountain lodge. On 29th we have the option of staying at Kiruna or Porjus.Any suggestion on the above plan as we would like to maximize the chances to see the lights.

Porjus is a really nice spot for the Northern Lights, basically no light pollution and a very nice and knowledgeable host if you plan to stay at: tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g1596408-d15949…

On the other hand Porjus is 260 kilometres away from Abisko while Kiruna is only 96 kilometres away.

Going to Porjus means that you will have to take the train to Gällivare then bus or make arrangements with the accommodation in Porjus.

If you decide to go to Kiruna look in to accommodation outside the city centre to avoid the light pollution.

And finally, regardless of the place you chose; keep your fingers crossed that the lights will appear as they do not show on a daily basis, also fingers crossed for good weather.

Hope you are lucky and will be able to see the lights, they are simply amazing!

Best regards
