A day trip from Copenhagen - Malmö, Lund, else?

What would you recommend as a day trip destination from Copenhagen to get a sense of what western Sweden is like - Malmö, Lund or another town/place? We will be there in late December. Thank you.

Well, you don't get a sense for western Sweden over a day trip but apart from that I would say: Go to Lund. It is a nice city with a very compact centre, where you have everything within walking distance from the railway station. The cathedral is worth a visit.

Thank you for the response, Christopher_Swede. It's always nice to get a local's perspective, no matter what all those travel books and sites tell you.

Copenhagen is so lovely, that you might not want to leave it. If you do, however, I think you will have a very enjoyable day in Malmö-Lund. The Öresundståg (Oresund´s train) will take you from Copenhagen Central station to Malmö and Lund. Several trains a day both ways. A little bit costly to go over the bridge, but I think you will find it worth it. Well, what´s there to see then? In Malmö head for the main square from Central station and take a stroll through the city center. Don´t miss Lilla Torg (Little Square) which is as cosy as it sounds. Malmö has a compact and nice city center. One of its interesting sights is the St Petri chuch behind the Main Square. Very old and beutiful on the inside! If you want to have some nice cake and coffe; I recommend café Hollandia on Södra Förstadsgatan. The area around nearby Davidshalls Torg (Square) is delightful and peaceful. The train ride to Lund only takes about 15 minutes and Lund also has a very nice old city center. The magnificent Cathedral and main University building, in the heart of town, is the main sights. 2-3 hours in Malmö and 3 hours in Lund will give you a great time. Enjoy! :-)

PS The Oresund´s trains from Copenhagen-Malmö can be rather full of people on some departures. Most people do not reserve seats, but if you really, really want to avoid being amidst the crowd you can take a 1st class reservation,

Yes indeed as Richard says they are very close, the distance is just 20 km (12 miles).
