Northern Lights trip no2

Last year i visited Iceland on a Northern Lights tour but unfortunately it was cloudy the whole time we were there so we want to have another attempt someplace else.

I know Norway and Finland are the best options for seeing the lights but can anyone help with trips and flights? We did a package deal with Iceland Air last time which was all pretty easy so that would be the preferred option this time. We want to fly out Tue 27th Dec for 2 possibly 3 nights.

Any help greatly appreciated as always!

Thanks

Louise

For a package trip you should consult the British tour operators that have Lapland in their selection.

For DIY trips there are two options: book the flights and hotels separately or as a combined package. You should, however, check both options and compare the prices.

The following airlines operate scheduled flights from UK to the Finnish Lapland: Finnair (BA has a code share agreement with Finnair on certain routes) from London Heathrow and Manchester to Helsinki and from there onwards to all Lappish airports (Rovaniemi, Kittilä, Ivalo & Enontekiö). Blue1 and SAS fly from Heathrow to Helsinki and from there to Rovaniemi and Kittilä. AirBaltic flies from London Gatwick to Riga (Latvia) and from there to Rovaniemi and Kittilä.

On all airlines' websites it is nowadays possible to book both flights and accommodation, too.

E.g. http://www.levi.fi/ has a flight and accommodation package search and booking engine.

Are the chances of seeing the lights as good in Finland as say Tromso in Norway? The cost of flights, accommodation and a couple of trips to Tromso in Dec is coming up to £1,000 for 2 days. Crazy money! Would Finland in January be a cheaper option?
