1 sim card or 2?

I will be in a car touring southern finland for about a week making 5-10 mobile calls a day, then maybe 1-2 calls a day in helsinki for another week, then in netherlands for a week with far fewer calls. I have an unlocked quad band travel phone. am I better off with 2 sim cards- a netherlands sim card and a finland sim card, or 1 eu or other regional european card? my reading suggests the number of calls in finland makes the finland sim card a better value, and a second, lower use card for netherlands. Any suggestions on a better company to purchase the calls through? I would rather spend my money on some good finnish food than calls!

Better get locally separate prepaid SIM cards for Finland and the Netherlands. Roaming charges will get you quickly. Topping up a Finnish card in Netherlands might also be not that easy.

In Finland the market is quite competitive, so the network coverage of the different providers is quite similar and prices close to each other. SIM cards are available at the airport or any "R-kioski" convenience store. saunalahti.fi , telefinland.fi and dnaprepaid.fi are likely companies to use.

However, if you will be calling abroad, the major cost is likely to be the international long distance charges. The default international services each Finnish prepaid SIM provider offers when you call using the + prefix are not particularly cheap. One way to save money when calling abroad may be using discount long distance operators like http://www.call99577.com , http://www.teleale.com , http://www.99511.fi and others. The call quality and prices to different countries will vary, so you need to check their price lists. These operators charge your prepaid account if you make a call using their prefix e.g. 995771555123456789 would call a hypothetical number in the United States area code "555".

thank you for the advice goodsoil family! I will likely use good old free skype to say hello to my family in usa, and get the two sim cards for the finnish and dutch calls.
